Costa Rica

At the end of November I flew to Costa Rica for a week along with Steven Macatonia from Union Hand Roasted Coffee to visit farms and micro mills. In four days we managed to visit 12 micro mills and about 20 farms with Francisco Mena from Exclusive Coffee.

The trip was part of my research into a project I'm starting about direct coffee trade and it's effect on producers. Which I'm going to be working on for the next 3 years and visiting several origin countries. Union is one of the pioneers of direct trade in the UK and work on a social impact projects within the communities they develop relationships with.

My Friends The Philly Jay's

Over the summer I met a Australian band from Sydney called the Philadelphia Grand Jury who are managed by a good friend of my Martin, who I know from back in Sydney. Anyway the guys were living in the UK for 6 months making music and deciding to start from scratch and work there way up the music industry in the UK.

After 6 month relentlessly touring the UK and South Africa and the US the guys have gone back to Oz and are touring again. I managed to hang with them a few times and went up to Sunderland on the longest drive ever taking 10 hours.

Antwerp

I was in Antwerp for five days visiting friends drinking vast quantities of coffee, tasting as many types of beer as possible and going to a concert without working at it.

Bert the Antwerp Moustache

On my trip to Antwerp I ended up taking photos of Bert van Wassenhove who is also know as the moustache. If you ever meet him. You'll understand what a character he is, apart from having over 1200 numbers in his phone, he is also the 2010 Belgium Coffee Cup Tasting Champion and was awarded best dressed at the 2010 WBC (World Barista Championships) in London.
